Congratulations on deciding to move to Australia and to the city of Melbourne, the best place in the world for a human being to live!

I can assist you with accommodation thus providing you with time to find your own place and adjust to living in a new country. However you have to give me the exact date of your arrival so I can book you in. As migrants arrive all the time and there is room for three families only, we have a rule that the first family in is the first family out of the house. Normally I will try to allow each family at least three to four weeks accommodation.

The house has four bedrooms. One for a single person, one for a married couple and two joining bedrooms for a family with children (under 12). Cost is AUD$100.00 per person and AUD$25.00 for small children per week. This AUD$25.00 will help pay for the use of gas and electricity.

The house is furnished and has crockery and cutlery. All beds are with mattresses but you should bring your own bed linen, pillows and blankets. Of course you could buy everything here but it is a bit expensive. During winter, early autumn and late spring especially at night it can be cold.

Over the past few years we have installed a new hot water system and ducted heating. A very large refrigerator has been purchased for the tenants’ use. The bathroom, shower and laundry were renovated. This year the house was repainted internally and we are planning to replace the carpets and curtains. All money we receive from our tenants is used to improve and renovate the facilities provided.

When booking airfares to Australia, make sure that you travel directly to Melbourne and avoid changing planes in Sydney to a domestic flight. It is much more convenient this way as otherwise people meeting you may not know when you arrive in Melbourne, on what flight and on which domestic airline.

As the Russian Welfare Society is no longer a recipient of a grant from the Government to provide services to newly arrived migrants we are not able to provide a free-of-charge pickup service at the airport and transportation to Dandenong. I suggest that you ask for assistance from others on OzÒðîâîê.Org or G'Day or Ozzi.ru . Other than that you can catch a Sky bus from the airport to the Southern Cross Railway Station and from there catch a train to Dandenong (approx. AUD$25.00 per person). Take a taxi from the Dandenong Station to Unit 1, 22 Dalgety St ($10.00). I do have someone who will meet people with their luggage at the airport and take them to Dandenong for AUD$100.00 plus cost of parking the car at the airport. This can range from AUD$5.00 to AUD$20.00 depending on the time taken.

If you decide to use the services of this person, you will be met by him one hour after your arrival time (custom and immigration clearance normally take one hour). Once you have cleared the customs go out of the airport building and wait at the place called the “MEETING POINT” at the international arrivals until someone will come to pick you up. Please, when buying your airline ticket, make sure that you do not arrive on weekends or during the night. Best time of arrival is during working times - Monday to Friday 9-00 to 17-00 hours. If you are arriving outside these hours or on weekend the cost is AUD$150.00.
