RUSSIAN WELFARE IS COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING THE NEEDS AND ASPIRATIONS OF THE RUSSIAN COMMUNITY
Centenary of the repose of St John of Kronstadt 2008
To commemorate the centenary of our Patron Saint’s death in 1908, Russian Welfare has commenced a major fundraising effort. As Russian Welfare is the only organisation of its kind in Victoria to serve the needs of Russian and other Slavic communities, we have commenced a major building project at Kronstadt Gardens to develop a dementia unit for 11 residents, 2 respite rooms, a new laundry and dining facilities. This is in addition to the 30 high care beds and 43 low care beds already in use. The cost of the new project is $ 2.6 million, of which Russian Welfare has contributed $1,000,000 and the Dept of Health and Ageing $880,000.
Russian Welfare invites new donors and sponsors to contribute to this worthy endeavour and become a part of this exciting project. All donors will be recognised on our Roll of Honour near the entrance to the new dining facility.
Official Visit of HIH Grand Duchess Maria of Russia 2007
The Russian Welfare Society was a major sponsor of the visit of Her Imperial Highness to Australia on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Russian presence in this country. The Grand Duchess Maria visited Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Whilst in Victoria, HIH also visited the Russian Welfare Society in Dandenong where she unveiled a commemorative plague.
Russian Ball 2006
The Russian Community Ball in October 2006 was a great success with 320 attending. The event raised $10,000 for the Alfred Hospital Burns Unit, our community thanksgiving for the return to good health of Alexis Protopopov following his horrific injuries due to a house fire.
Media
The ongoing coverage of the activities of the Russian Welfare Society and life at Kronstadt Gardens Aged Care Residential Complex in Dandenong, provided by The Dandenong Journal, The STAR News, Dandenong News and Unification Russian Language Newspaper has been a visible and encouraging acknowledgement of our active role in the community.
Our heartfelt gratitude to all who continue supporting our work.
